Campaign update
Dear Reader,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and uplifted. As we pass the one-year mark of the Honest for San Francisco Mayor 2024 campaign today, it's time to reflect on the incredible strides we've made since I declared my candidacy on September 15, 2022, and look ahead to the pivotal year that awaits us as we head towards Election Day November 5, 2024. Your support, passion, and tireless energy have brought us this far, and we couldn't be more grateful.
A Year in Review
Achievements:
- Assembled a core team of 4 dedicated volunteer staff members.
- Gained hundreds of followers on social media and subscribers to our newsletter.
- Increased interest in volunteering from individuals across the community.
- Encountered a wave of positive energy from supporters like you.
- Spoke directly and in groups to countless San Franciscans to spread the message. Performed stand-up comedy multiple times of the week to local audiences in a fun and lighthearted way to make local politics accessible and engaging.
- Appeared on Mutiny Radio, speaking to host Joan Rivard; and interviewed for a to-be-published news article by a reporter whose work has appeared in SFGate, and 48 Hills.
- Attended civic events including the San Francisco Public Bank’s community forum; and Board of Supervisors weekly meetings, where Honest Charley addressed the Board to speak against the 2024/2025 budget cuts for the food bank.
- Attended political events (in a non-endorsement capacity) including Supervisor Dean Preston’s (D6) reelection announcement at the steps of City Hall; Congressperson Katie Porter’s (CA-47) rally for her senate campaign at Manny’s in the Mission; Congressperson Andy Kim’s (NJ-03) reception at Shack15 at the Ferry Building; and First Lady Jill Biden’s campaign rally for President Joe Biden’s reelection held also at Manny’s, to represent, learn, and build relationships with local, state, and federal partners.
The Year Ahead
Bottling the Energy:
- We've felt the buzz and excitement from our supporters; now it's time to harness that energy into actionable goals.
Securing the Ballot:
- Our immediate aim is to continue to grow our newsletter list so that beginning March 18, 2024, we can reach out to residents and begin to collect the needed 14,040 signatures or raise the $7,020 filing fee.
- Each signature will count as $0.50 toward this goal—which means that if we meet our goal of 14,040, we will not have to pay the filing fee. We are a totally grassroots campaign and will not accept a cent from the powerful lobbies that have controlled San Francisco for decades.
- We’ll only have 56 days from March 18, 2024 until the deadline of May 13, 2024 to collect signatures, so time will be of the essence. This means we’ll need to collect 250 signatures a day, or 32 an hour, provided 8 hours are worked every day.
- We will announce shortly through this newsletter donation details, should you be able to assist financially!
Announcing Our Platform:
- This fall, we'll unveil the policy platform we've been developing in partnership with you, our community. Your insights and suggestions will come to life in policy plans aimed at changing the face of our great city. Contact Honest@HonestForMayor.org with your ideas and Honest Charley will reach out to discuss how they might fit into the platform, or sign up for our Policy Advisory Committee at www.HonestForMayor.org/volunteer.
🤝 Here's How You Can Help
- Donate: Help us reach our filing fee target and get the message out; no contribution is too small. Details on donations will be announced soon!
- Volunteer: Be a part of the signature collection team or assist with other campaign efforts. Sign up today.
- Share: Tell your friends, family, and social media network about the Honest For Mayor campaign. Your voice amplifies our reach.
The magic of this campaign is its people—people like you who believe in a better, more inclusive San Francisco. So let's celebrate this one-year milestone, but let’s also roll up our sleeves for the exciting work ahead!
Yours sincerely,
Honest Charley Bodkin
